Martinez sacking could pave the way for Slaven Bilic reunion with midfielder at West Ham

Slaven Bilic faces competition from Everton in a bid to be reunited with one of his former players at West Ham United this summer.

Damien Lucas

Speculation linking Bilic with a renewed bid for Besiktas and Austria midfielder Veli Kavlak has resurfaced with reports from Turkish sports site Fanatik claiming the Toffees are also keen.

But according to the reports from Turkey - where the 27-year-old plies his trade with Bilic's former team - last week's sacking of Roberto Martinez could put paid to interest from Merseyside.

According to Fanatik, sources in Kavlak's home country Austria claim Hammers boss Bilic wants to bring his former player to the Premier League after the European Championships.

Co-owners ready to spend

The defensive box-to-box midfielder has a contract until 2019 at Besiktas which highlights how highly the Turkish Super Lig side rate him.

The Hammers look set for another busy summer in the transfer market with their big move to the 60,000 seater Olympic Stadium looming large.

Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold were true to their word by investing significant funds to strengthen Bilic's squad last summer.

And they look set to go for it again with the club targeting two top strikers to elevate them to the next level.

Hammers need to bolster midfield

Hammers fans will be pleased to hear that Kavlak is very similar to their former cult hero Valon Behrami, now with Watford.

Kavlak is a key man in midfield for club and country with his tireless running and seemingly endless energy levels. He should be able to adapt to the Premier League too as he was one of Besiktas' star players in their matches against Liverpool and Arsenal in Europe last season.

A hardworking leader much like Behrami, Kavlak could became a real fans' favourite for at Upton Park.

He is often paired up in central midfield with a more attacking player at the tip of a diamond which would fit well with the likes of Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini.

With Alex Song looking set to return to Barcelona after failing to prove his long-term credentials the Hammers will need to beef up their midfield.

But there is a word of caution in that Kavlak has also been out all season and two months of last season through injury, although he is expected to be fit for Austria come the Euros next month.

Manager in talks with Cardiff City player over transfer, West Ham and Crystal Palace still in wings

If any of the English clubs interested in signing Bruno Ecuele Manga want to take that interest further then they should probably hurry up about it. Interest in the defender is growing and French club Rennes are pushing themselves into the queue.

French newspaper L'Equipe report on Monday that Christian Gourcuff, who is taking over at Rennes, has already spoken to Manga about a summer transfer. Gourcuff has made Manga a priority signing for Rennes, having managed the him previously at Lorient, but L'Equipe acknowledge a move would be very hard to pull off.

Premier League interest is pinpointed again, with West Ham, Crystal Palace and Swansea City named, but Cardiff would surely be loathe to sell Manga to their Welsh rivals. Sevilla's sporting director Monchi, recognised in Spain as an expert when it comes to spotting bargain buys, is also keeping an eye on Manga.

Speaking to Sport Witness, the player’s agent, Yvan Le Mée, said last week: “Yes, Bruno Ecuele Manga should be transferred this summer. His Cardiff contract ends on the 30th of June 2017, and Swansea, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Lazio are all very interested.”

West Ham plan double swoop on Newcastle for Townsend and Wijnaldum

By Greg Stobart

West Ham are planning a double swoop on relegated Newcastle for Andros Townsend and Georginio Wijnaldum, Squawka understands.

Townsend has an £8 million relegation release clause in his Newcastle contract and is also attracting interest from Southampton having impressed since his move to St. James' Park in January.

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic wants to improve the depth of his squad ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium this summer and the club are planning to spend up to £60m on new players in the transfer window.

The club are prepared to spend £30m on a new striker, which is the priority for the summer, while midfielder Havard Nordtveit has already been confirmed as the first arrival of the window on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Hammers are preparing to play in next season's Europa League if Manchester United beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Sunday and Bilic wants to strengthen his squad to prepare for the extra workload of European football.

Newcastle spent £12m to sign Townsend from Tottenham and the 24-year-old winger scored four goals in 14 Premier League appearances on Tyneside, with his form earning him a place in Roy Hodgson's 26-man England squad for Euro 2016.

Townsend has enjoyed his time at Newcastle, especially since Rafael Benitez's appointment in March, but is keen to continue in the top flight following the club's relegation to the Championship while he is originally from East London.

Midfielder Wijnaldum scored twice in the stunning 5-1 victory over Tottenham on the final day of the season to end the campaign with 11 goals and five assists in 38 league matches.

The Dutchman, 25, cost £14.5m when he signed from PSV Eindhoven last summer and while there are questions about his consistency, he is highly rated by West Ham.

Wijnaldum has already made 27 appearances for the Netherlands while he has experience in both the Champions League and the Europa League.

So they pay £12m for Townsend a few weeks ago and give him an £8m relegation clause?!

Fucking basket case that club.

I'd prefer Redmond but Townsend wouldn't be the worse Moses replacement.
